It's Virgil's world, we're just living in it!

Virgilantes!

I'm happy to announce the star of this dog blog has landed in a fur-ever home with his dog brother with whom he was surrendered!!!! He's with some really awesome humans and fur-siblings who welcomed their two new additions in to their pack. They'll give Virgil the all the love and attention, and maybe a wee bit of training, that he needs to be the best dog ever. While I miss him terribly, I'm so glad he's in a great home and thriving!

While we're celebrating the happy news, no blog post is complete without Virgil's thoughts and observations from a walk around the neighborhood. Virgil and I walked many literal and figurative miles together and came across many strange things along the way. Virgil thinks the people who live down the street have an, um, eclectic collection of roadside ephemera. Please note the pink flamingo in addition to the road construction things used as a base for the beer pong table. (Editor's note: the kids who live there are lovely and friendly, they just do funny things because they're college kids)

Guest pup: Harold!

Hello Virgilantes

Meet our guest pup, Harold!

This little boy is winning hearts and minds the world over! He is so cute and sweet! He uses a wheel chair to get around outside, and in the house he's the fastest beast on 2 legs!

He loves food, walks, and playing with other dogs. He's happy all the time and during our down time, he just wants to snuggle.

If you'd like to welcome the sweetest, happiest little boy ever into your home, please check out Harold (FKA Chance) here. Dogs like Harold are a little extra effort for a lot of extra love.

More posts from Virgil coming soon to a dog blog near you! In the meantime, please check out Harold!

Mysteries of the universe

As far as Virgil is concerned, every day is a fresh adventure where we discover something new. Yesterday, he discovered automatic doors. We've walked past the library, which has these instruments of the devil, a million times. Yesterday, however, we must have crossed the eye that opens the door. As soon as that door opened by nothing other than black magic, Virgil jumped right out of his skin and tried to run! It was hilarious.

Today's adventure involved a ceramic cat in a store window. Virgil was completely mystified by it and kept trying to sniff it and was looking at it from different angles. We see cats a lot, and he seems intrigued by them in the wild, although I know he lived with a cat at his last foster home, so he likely knows what they are. But this one made of ceramic, it was pure trickery!

Maybe it was the cool weather today that turned Virgil into a total goofball. He was extra playful for some reason. He even stayed awake for like 20 minutes straight in the middle of the work day, which is highly unusual. He generally just sleeps all day.

If you're looking for a best friend to join you in all of life's adventures, adopt Virgil here.

Mr. Virgil's neighborhood

Hello Virgilantes!

We had a good weekend of walks and naps, and hope you did too. I took Virgil to our friend's house and he had zero trouble finding a spot to nap on a different couch. He was a little nervous about getting in the car, but I just put his bed on the seat and he slept the whole way. Virgil is a pretty go-with-the-flow kind of guy.

Virgil had some potential adopters, but they ended up rescuing a dog from a bad situation, so I put his new bandana on him for tonight's walk to advertise that he is up for adoption! Unfortunately, we got a late start and didn't see too many people.

Virgil thinks we live in a funny place, because sometimes we see weird stuff on our walks, like this.

A little couch time

Things with Virgil have been good. He's just an easy little dude to live with. He's started crying when I leave for work, which of course is super sad. But i know that he stops and goes and crawls into bed for the day. And man is he a bed hog. I have a tiny sliver of space available for me, and Virgil takes up the rest of the space. But he does keep me warm!

He's been loving his new toys and runs back and forth through the house with them. We take our twice daily walks, and if I get a few minutes to sit on the couch at night, he is right by my side. Ok, maybe in my seat just a little.

Virgil is gearing up for a rainy weekend full of food and naps.

If you want to spend your rainy weekends with Virgil, you can adopt him here.

New toys!

Virgil and I haven't had a ton of time to play with toys, but he likes his fries and is happy to chase them around if I throw them.

Virgil's Gram decided he needed some more toys (and maybe had a feeeewwww too many Barkbox toys laying around the house), so she sent Virgil a care package. Virgil loves them all and can be seen tearing through the house with a bat or a squirrel, if he feels like it, of course.

Hopefully this weekend we'll find some time to chase the ball around and see how Virgil does with fetch (current results are mixed).

If you want to play tug-of-war with Virgil on a regular basis, you can adopt him here.

Virgil wishes you a happy weekend filled with your favorite things.

A comedy of errors

Virgil and I had quite the adventure this morning! Before work I take him on a walk around the block. It's a slow walk, but we don't go too far. I'm not exactly little miss sunshine in the morning, so there is pretty much no room for error and I don't have a ton of patience for little aggravations like putting on a harness. Virgil has been a pretty mellow walker, so I just hook the leash to his collar and off we go!

Well, we're just walking along when we see another dog. Virgil decides to lose his ever-loving mind over this dog. I'm trying to get him to calm down when that collar just slips off of his neck and he is free! He just wanted to say hi to the dog, but when I came tearing after him he ran into the street (thankfully no cars!). So here I am at 7 am screeching in the middle of the street, chasing after Virgil, with the roll of poop bags in my pocket beginning to unravel like a tail. You can only imagine the scene.

I caught the little bugger pretty quickly and got him back in his collar. I apologized to the other dog owner and we were on our way.

We finally get home after this little adventure and I realize I forgot my house keys. Luckily, I have a spare. Somehow I still made my train and little Virgil had a relaxing day at home. We took a nice walk this evening. With a harness.

If you want a walking buddy who keeps you on your toes, you can adopt Virgil here.

Virgil says sorry to the fine folks of 19th street for the rude awakening you had today.

A weekend of walks and naps

Virgil and I had a nice weekend with lots of walking and napping. It’s been really rainy and we thought we caught a break in the rain for a quick potty run on Saturday, but we were wrong. Virgil didn’t really seem to mind the rain. Me on the other hand...

He helped me while I did some stuff around the house and was by my side all day.

It cleared up later in the day so we took a big long walk. Virgil just isn’t in  a hurry; slow and steady wins the race he says. After a big walk in the cold he was ready to just curl up on the couch with his head on my lap. This little guy is just full of love and cuddles.

He was also very good boy while I was out for a few hours today. I let him have the run of the house and he had no accidents!

If you want a sweet little dog, who sometimes snores, to keep you company, adopt Virgil here

National Puppy Day!

Virgil would like to wish everyone a very happy national puppy day. You see, while puppies are cute, Virgil is the perfect age. He sleeps through the night, is potty trained, and has plenty of energy and spunk, but not toooo much.

Today Virgil was a very good boy. I had a longer-than-planned day away from home. I took Virgil on a very short walk this morning, but he really wasn't too interested in going potty. As it was his first day home by himself, i confined him to the kitchen just in case of an accident. Despite the long period of time, when I got home the kitchen was just how I left it! No accidents or other sneaky dog tricks. I'm pretty sure Virgil slept on the dog bed all day and barely seemed awake when I walked in the door. He was super happy to see me! We went on a nice walk and he made up for not having gone potty all day. He walks pretty well on the leash but definitely has a mind of his own. He's mostly about sniffing, altho he didn't know what to do when we saw a cat on our walk.

Virgil doesn't seem too interested in bugging me when I eat. I mean, I wouldn't leave any food unattended in his presence, but when I eat he pretty much just sleeps--which is his favorite thing to do.

Adopt Virgil here. You'll have a bestie beastie for life!
